Every day, CARE’s Community Crisis Responders are out looking for people to help. Here are just a few examples of calls they’ve responded to over the last week:
Queen Anne
CCRs responded to a report of a person down near Aurora Avenue. CARE arrived and spoke with the person, who said they needed food and a safe place to stay for the night. CCRs made a referral, provided clothing and food, and transported them to a shelter.
Delridge
CCRs were dispatched to a call for an individual who needed shelter for the night. When CCRs arrived on scene, the man stated that he had to move his truck from his usual parking spot because of complaints. CCRs called several shelters and found one where the individual could park his truck out front while staying inside the facility. CCRs then drove with the man to the shelter.
Pioneer Square
King County Sheriff’s deputies flagged down a CCR team to assist an unhoused person. The person told CCRs they had been feeling very overwhelmed by their situation and needed help finding a place to sleep that night. CCRs discussed available shelter options and made several referral calls on their behalf. While waiting for call-backs from facilities, the person told CCRs they had not eaten that day, so responders provided food and water. CCRs then transported them to a shelter.
Mount Baker
SPD requested CCRs to assist a community member who needed shoes, clothing, and food. CCRs arrived, contacted the person, and provided food, water, gloves, shoes, and clothing before the person left the area.
Greenlake
SPD contacted CARE for assistance after encountering a man in a wheelchair who was in need of resources. The man told CCRs he was cold and needed assistance reconnecting with several medical and financial services. CCRs referred the man to a local crisis stabilization center and transported him there.
Chinatown-International District
SPD called CARE to assist on a trespassing call. CCRs spoke with a man who said he was simply looking to get out of the cold and was seeking medical care. CCRs were able to get him a referral to the Crisis Solutions Center and transported him there.
Downtown/Westlake
SPD officers requested the CARE team to assist with a person they were trespassing from a business. They told CCRs the person needed clothing and food and had been caught shoplifting socks they planned to wear. CCRs met with the person and provided food, socks, gloves, a hat, sweatshirt, and pants. The person asked whether CARE could help him find a job, and CCRs directed him to contact WorkSource, encouraging him to use library computers and connect with a social worker at a library facility.
