Shelter, Blankets, and Cold Weather Gear: How CCRs Have Been Helping Around the City

Now that we’ve reached the coldest months, CCRs have been out around the city providing blankets, warming gear, and rides to shelter for those in need.

Lower Queen Anne

SPD officers requested CCRs to assist with a person seeking shelter for the night. The CARE team referred individual to a shelter for the night and then began driving them there. While they were on the way, the shelter called CCRs and said their last bed had been filled, so the CARE team began discussing other options with the person. The individual asked about going to a treatment center and CCRs were able to make a referral and transport them to a facility.

West Seattle

CCRs contacted a person, and their dog, who were seeking shelter.  CCRs found a facility with an open bed and transported them there. Upon arrival, the person asked if they could be taken to a relative’s home instead. After confirming the relative’s home was available,  CCRs transported the person there and helped them carry their belongings inside.

Capitol Hill

CARE was flagged down by subject, looking for clothing and snacks. 2 other people joined when we got out to engage 1st subject. Engaged in friendly conversation, including talking about shelter resources and advising on current options close to Capitol Hill. Declined any shelter referral. Snacks and sweatshirts provided, then went back in service. “When you’re out here.. It’s always a crisis.”

City Hall

CCRs were dispatched to City Hall to assist a person seeking shelter. CCRs transported the person to a cold weather shelter and provided information on obtaining housing. CCRs provided the individual with some snacks and warm weather gear and departed.

Judkins Park

CCRs were dispatch to assist a man in need of shelter, food, clothing, and hyigene products. CCRs gave them all needed items and resources for near by shelters, along with bus tickets. While CCRs were helping the first person, a second person approached them and requested food, hyigene products, clothing and a blanket. CCRs gave them all the needed items and then left the scene.

Downtown

SPD officers requested CARE to help a person who was in need of a blanketl. CCRs responded and learned the person also needed warm clothes and supplies, as they were living outdoors. CCRs provided warming gear, a blanket, food, and water, and assisted a second person who approached them and requested the same items.
